Coloured-head screws Grey Stainless steel 4.8 x 50 mm - Box 100 Pieces
Fixing truss panels, HPL panels or other facade cladding, can be done in several ways. The most least common way is gluing facade panels. When you glue the panels together, there is a chance that the glue will dry out and crumble after a while. This can cause the panels to loosen. To prevent this, Coloured-head screws have been developed. These screws have been specially developed for securing wall cladding panels. The head of the screw is the same colour as the panel material, making it almost invisible. Because of the wide head, the screw has a high clamping range and the panels will stay tightly in place.
Coloured-head screws by Wovar
Coloured-head screws by Wovar, also known as step screws or HPL screws, are available in various colours and lengths. The most Popular colours are Black, White and Anthracite. The screw head features a so-called Qualicoat coating. This high-quality coating ensures that the deep colour is preserved and the screw is not scratched or tarnished by the sun.
The response screws are available in lengths of 25, 32, 38, 50 and 60 mm. The screw head is 12 mm wide and ensures a high clamping range. This is because the tension is distributed over a larger surface area. With the Torx-20 bit supplied, you easily screw the screw into the wood. The thread of the HPL screw is 4.8 mm. These screws are made of A4 stainless steel. This has the advantage, compared to A2 stainless steel, that they are even more resistant to moisture, acids, salts and chlorine. This makes these screws suitable even for salt-rich coastal areas.
Installing facade panels
When installing facade panels you should always pre-drill the panel. Do this with a carbide HSS drill bit, which you can find in our range of hardwood drill bits. We recommend pre-drilling the central hole (also known as the fixing point) with the 5 mm variant. This drill is just wide enough for our Coloured-head screws. You drill the fixing point centrally at each beam to which the panel will be secured, regardless of whether you are using 2, 3 or more beams. Then pre-drill the other holes (which you use to secure the panel to the beam) with an 8 mm hardwood drill bit. This allows the panels to 'work'. This means that the panels can shrink and expand with temperature changes. You drill these holes every 40 cm. Ensure that these holes are at most 10x the panel thickness in mm from the panel edge for the best fastening. Below is a brief overview of the various (standard) plate thicknesses and the suitable screws:
Sheet thickness | Minimum screw length |
6 mm | 25, 32, 38, 50 & 60 mm |
8 mm | 32, 38, 50 & 60 mm |
10 mm | 38, 50 & 60 mm |
13 mm | 38, 50 & 60 mm |
The last step involves securing the plates. Preferably start by screwing the cladding panels to the drilled fixing points. If the other drill holes are not perfectly aligned with those of the panel, you can still move the panel back and forth. Be careful not to overtighten, just 'hand-tight' is tight enough (as the panel will expand and shrink). Then start tightening the other screws until all screws are in and the plate is firmly in place. Note, here again, that 'hand-tight' is sufficient in view of the working of the board.
