Handrail Bracket Aluminium Square - Per piece
Looking for handrail brackets? This handrail bracket is a square model made from strong aluminium. The bracket was designed for use with straight handrails. Mounting handrail brackets is a job you can do yourself in a few steps.
Materials for building a banister
You will need at least two handrail brackets, one for each end of the handrail. You might need more brackets if your handrail is long. We recommend keeping 60 to 80 cm between the handrail brackets. Before starting with your DIY project, make sure you have the following materials:
- Handrail (beam/pole)
- Screws
- Nylon wall plugs
- Concrete drill bit
- Hardwood drill bit
- Handrail brackets
Installing a banister
Below is a helpful guide to building your own banister. We recommend asking for help from another person for some of these steps.
- Determine the position and height of the banister. The average height is 90 cm above the steps. Be sure to measure the height in at least two different spots to ensure an equal height. The easiest way to do this is to mark 90 cm above the top and bottom step. Then place masking tape on the wall between these two markings.
- Temporarily attach the handrail brackets to the handrail.
- Ask someone to hold the handrail with brackets at the right height, so you can mark the position of the bottom screws.
- Drill the holes and insert the nylon wall plugs.
- Detach the handrail brackets from the handrail and attach them (temporarily) to the wall using only the mounting hole on the bottom.
- Place the handrail on the brackets. Because the brackets are only fixed with one screw, you will be able to turn them to the right position, so they align perfectly with the handrail.
- Mark the other mounting holes. Drill the other holes and insert the nylon wall plugs.
- Secure the handrail brackets to the wall.
- Attach the handrail to the brackets with 4 x 50 mm torx 20 galvanised chipboard screws.
