Cranked Hinge Galvanised 120 cm - Crescent Tip
This cranked hinge of 120 cm is made of very strong galvanised steel. Our galvanised cranked hinges have a blue passivated layer, giving the hinge a beautiful shine. This cranked hinge makes it easy to install fence doors or garden gates. The slight bend causes the door or gate to fall slightly inward, level with the back of the hinge hook. This is useful, for example, if you want to attach the fence door to a thicker post. The hinge has 6 mounting holes with a diameter of 8 mm. This makes our carriage bolts galvanised M8 suitable for fastening the hinge. You determine the length of the carriage bolts on the basis of the door thickness.
This hinge is the 'band' part of a hook and band hinge. You will need to add a hinge hook to your order to complete the hinge. These cranked hinges have a 16 mm eye. Therefore, mount these cranked hinges in combination with our galvanised 16 mm hinge hooks.
With which bolts do I mount these strap hinges?
You can mount Wovar's cranked hinges with coach screws or carriage bolts. With a door thickness of 35 mm including the hinge, our M8x30 mm coach screws are sufficient. For thicker doors, it is recommended to attach the hinges with our galvanised carriage bolts. Is the door thickness approximately 40 mm? Then use our galvanised carriage bolts M8x50 mm. For a door of 50 mm, choose our galvanised carriage bolts M8x60 mm.
How do I attach cranked hinges to my door?
Mount the hinges on the same side as the direction of rotation. Will the door open to the outside? Mount the hinges to the outside of the door. If the door opens inwards, attach the hinge on the inside of the door. Place the cranked hinge in the correct place on the door and mark the mounting holes with a pencil. Are you using carriage bolts? Then it is necessary to drill a pilot hole with a 9 mm thick hardwood drill bit. After drilling, slide the carriage bolts through the hole. The head of the carriage bolts is not on the same side of the door as the hinge. By tapping the head of the carriage bolts with a rubber hammer, the square portion under the head of the carriage bolts is clamped into the wood. This prevents the carriage bolt from turning when tightening the nut.
When you fasten the strap hinges with coach screws, you drill a pilot hole with a hardwood drill bit 6 mm. You mount lag screws differently, namely the other way around. Insert the coach screw on the same side of the door as the hinge. Make sure that each mounting hole contains a coach screw or carriage bolt.
How many hinges do I need for my garden door?
For doors or gates in your garden that are shorter than 120 cm, Wovar recommends using 2 hook and band hinges. Above 120 cm, generally, we recommend 3 hinges. The weight of the door also plays an important role with larger doors. For a door heavier than 90 kg, it is recommended to use 3 hinges. 2 hinges are sufficient when dealing with weights under 90 kg.
