Self-Tapping Screws Stainless Steel

Wovar supplies stainless steel self-tapping screws with a convex head, pan head and flat head. The stainless steel self-tapping screws have hardened steel wire. These cut their own wire in, for example, steel plate material. Choose from stainless steel sheet metal screws with drill point or without self-drilling point. Self-tapping screws with a drill point do not need to be pre-drilled. The thread of our sheet metal screws extends below the head. Thanks to the stainless steel, these self-drilling screws are also used for screwing aluminum profiles.

Tip: Are you going to screw wooden planks to metal frames, for example to make a custom garden door? Then make sure you pre-drill the hardwood or softwood with a bit more space. This way the wood can lose its effect and you will not have any problems with snapping screws or convex planks. Furthermore, never turn too long, and work with new bits so that the screw head is not damaged.

Stainless steel self-tapping screws do not oxidise and are extremely popular when screwing wooden planks to steel door frames. Self-tapping screws with a flat head sink nicely into the wood. With self-tapping pan head screws, the head remains on the wood. Self-tapping screws made of stainless steel also work well for mounting aluminum profiles, for a watertight connection choose our stainless steel self-tapping screws with cap.

The self-drilling screws are available with Phillips crosshead drive and with torx impression. We recommend torx for extra grip. For mounting polycarbonate sheets, we recommend using our special stainless steel self-tapping screws for polycarbonate sheets. These have a nylon ring. This ensures a watertight installation. The Nylon ring can also be ordered separately. It is only suitable for 4.8 mm thick screws.

Please note the difference between stainless steel and galvanised

Please note, stainless steel self-tapping screws for metal are less resilient than galvanised self-tapping screws. However, stainless steel has the advantage that it does not oxidise. These screws are self-drilling, but a very small point pre-drilling is sometimes useful so that your self-tapping screw goes exactly where you want the steel.

Self-tappings screws without a drill point must be pre-drilled with one of our metal drills. This is not a necessity for self-tapping screws with a drill point. The drill thickness that you use with self-tapping screws without a drill point should always be thinner than the screw itself. For example, with 4.2 mm thick self-tapping screws, you should use a metal drill 3.0 mm thick, and with 4.8 mm thick self-tapping screws a 3.5 mm thick metal drill. Proper pre-drilling is important with stainless steel self-tapping screws. Stainless steel is softer than galvanised steel. This increases the chance of breaking off with stainless steel screws!
