The advantage of stainless steel nails is that they do not oxidize. Wire nails made of stainless steel A2 steel are therefore perfect for use in damp areas. The disadvantage of stainless steel a2 is that it is at the back than galvanised steel and therefore less strong. Stainless steel a2 nails are not suitable for mounting in coastal areas with saltwater or in chlorine-rich surroundings such as swimming pools.
Stainless Steel Nails with a Round Head
Stainless steel nails with a round head are widely used for mounting facade cladding. These stainless steel wire nails with a round head with a straight pin are made of hard-drawn wire. This is to minimize warping. You mount these nails with a hammer. Because of the round head that stays nicely on the wood, it is also possible to remove these stainless steel nails with, for example, a crowbar or claw hammer.
Stainless Steel Nails with a "Lost" Head
Stainless steel wire nails with a lost head are used if the attachment must not be visible and will be covered with filler, for example. Often the nail is driven a little further into the wood with a punch so that a layer of filler can easily be smeared around it. Stainless steel lost head nails are available in thicknesses 1.6 mm, 1.8 mm, 2.1 mm 2.4 mm, 2.7 mm, and 3.4 mm. The lengths vary from 25mm to 80mm.
