Stainless Steel Strap Hinge of 40 cm with Modern Point

Which Bolts to Use for Mounting Stainless Steel 40 cm Hinges?

Mounting this hinge is quite easy because it has 1 square and 2 round mounting holes of 8.3mm. This means that you use our M8 carriage bolts to attach the handle. These are preferably stainless steel carriage bolts because the hinge is also made of stainless steel. The length of the carriage bolt you use will depend on the thickness of your hatch or cabinet door. A handy mnemonic for this is to use a carriage bolt that is 15 mm longer than the thickness of your door or hatch. Example:  do you have a door or hatch that is 45 mm thick? Then use a 60 mm carriage bolt, in this case, our stainless steel carriage bolts M8 x 60 mm. 

Mounting Stainless Steel Strap Hinges of 40 cm

Place the strap hinge in the correct position of the door or hatch and mark the mounting holes with a pencil. Do you use carriage bolts? Then it is necessary to pre-drill with our hardwood drill 9 mm. You can find these in our range of hardwood drills. After drilling, slide the carriage bolts through the hole. The semicircular head of the carriage bolts is on the inside of the door or hatch. By tapping the head of the carriage bolts with a rubber mallet, the square portion of the carriage bolts under the semicircular head clamps against the wood. This prevents the carriage bolt from turning when the nut is tightened. 

Each hinge has one square mounting hole. At the square hole, place the half-round head carriage bolt on the same side of the hinge. So that the square part under the semicircular head of the carriage bolt fits exactly into the square hole of the strap hinge. This ensures a firm fastening of the hinge.

If you are mounting the strap hinges with coach screws, pre-drill a hole with our 6mm hardwood drill. You will notice that screwing in the coach screw is much easier. You fasten coach screws in a different way than the carriage bolts, namely the other way around. You screw in the threaded bolt on the same side as the strap hinge. Ensure that each strap hinge mounting hole is fitted with either a coach screw or carriage bolt.
