Stainless Steel Strap Hinge of 80 cm with Modern Point
You can easily mount fence doors or gates with this 80 cm stainless steel strap hinge. These gate hinges provide a modern look. In this strap hinge, there are 5 mounting holes with a diameter of 8 mm. Based on door thickness, you determine with which mounting materials you will need to mount the strap hinge. These gate hinges have an eye of 16 mm. Therefore, do not forget to order our 16 mm stainless steel sheet hinge hooks.
Note: Do you work with heavy material? Then choose one of our Galvanised gate hinges, because these are much stronger than our stainless steel hinges. You will find the Galvanised strap hinges among our complete range of hinge hooks and hinges.
Which Bolts to Use for Mounting Stainless Steel 80 cm Hinges?
You can mount the Wovar strap hinges with coach screws or carriage bolts. With a door thickness of 35 mm including the hinge hook, our M8x30 mm coach screws are sufficient. For thicker doors, it is recommended to attach the strap hinges with our Galvanised carriage bolts. Is the door thickness approximately 40 mm? Then use our Galvanised carriage bolts M8x50 mm. With a door thickness of 50 mm, choose our Galvanised M8x60 mm carriage bolts.
Attaching Gate Hinges of 80 cm to a Fence
Install the strap hinges on the same side as the gate's rotating direction. Place the gate hinge in the correct position on the gate and mark the mounting holes with a pencil. Do want to you use carriage bolts? Then, it is necessary to pre-drill with our 9 mm hardwood drill. You will find these with the related products. After drilling, slide the carriage bolts through the hole. The semicircular head of the carriage bolts is on the inside of the door. By tapping the head of the carriage bolts with a rubber mallet, the square portion of the carriage bolts under the semicircular head clamps into the wood. This prevents the carriage bolt from turning when the nut is tightened.
Each hinge has one square mounting hole. At the square hole, place the half-round head carriage bolt on the same side of the hinge, so that the square part under the semicircular head of the carriage bolt fits exactly into the square hole of the strap hinge. This ensures a firm connection of the gate hinge.
If you are mounting the strap hinges with coach screws, you should pre-drill a hole with our 6mm hardwood drill. You will notice that screwing in the coach screw is much easier. You install coach screws in a different way than the carriage bolts, notably, the other way around. You screw on the coach screws on the same side as the strap hinge. Ensure that each strap hinge mounting hole is fitted with either a coach screw or carriage bolt.
How Many Hinges do I Need for my Garden Door?
For doors or gates in your garden that are no taller than 120 cm, Wovar recommends using 2 hinges with hinge hooks per door. For higher doors, it is recommended to use 3 hinges per door. By mounting your garden door with 3 hinges, you reduce the chance that the door will bend.
