Offset Hinge Galvanised 65 cm - Crescent Tip
This offset hinge 55 cm is made of very strong galvanised steel. Our galvanised hinges have a blue passivated layer, giving the hinge a beautiful shine. This offset hinge makes it easy to install fence doors or garden gates. The large bend makes it possible to mount the hinge hooks at the back of the post.
The large bend of this hinge ensures that your door falls inward by 4 cm. These offset hinges have 4 mounting holes with a diameter of 8 mm. Our carriage bolts galvanized M8 are the perfect match for these hinges. The length of the carriage bolts depends on the thickness of your gate.
This hinge is the 'band' part of a hook and band hinge. You will need to add a hinge hook to your order to complete the hinge. These offset hinges have a 16 mm eye, which means you should combine them with our galvanised 16 mm hinge hooks.
Which fastener do I need?
You can mount Wovar's offset hinges with coach screws or carriage bolts. With a door thickness of 35 mm including the hinge, our M8 x 30 mm coach screws are sufficient. For thicker doors, it is recommended to attach the offset hinges with our galvanised carriage bolts. Is the door approximately 40 mm thick? Then use our galvanised carriage bolts M8 x 50 mm. For a door thickness of 50 mm, choose our galvanised carriage bolts M8 x 60 mm.
How do I attach offset hinges to my door?
Double check that you are attaching the hinges on the correct side of the door. Place the offset hinge at the desired height on the door and mark the mounting holes with a pencil. Are you using carriage bolts? Then it is necessary to drill a hole with a 9 mm thick hardwood drill bit. After drilling, slide the carriage bolts through the hole. The head of the carriage bolts should be on the inside of the door. By tapping the head of the carriage bolts with a rubber hammer, the square portion under the head of the carriage bolts clamps into the wood. This prevents the carriage bolt from turning when tightening the nut.
If you mount the offset hinges with coach screws, drill a pilot hole with a hardwood drill bit 6 mm. You mount lag screws differently, namely the other way around. Insert the coach screw on the same side of the door as the hinge. Make sure that each mounting hole contains a coach screw or carriage bolt.
How many hinges do I need for my garden gate?
For doors or gates in your garden that are shorter than 120 cm, Wovar recommends using 2 hook and band hinges. Above 120 cm, generally, we recommend 3 hinges. The weight of the door also plays an important role with larger doors. For a door heavier than 90 kg, it is recommended to use 3 hinges. 2 hinges are sufficient when dealing with weights under 90 kg.
