This wood drill bit is suitable for drilling in softwood. The 11 mm drill bit has a total length of 142 mm. The spiral has a length of 95 mm. The centring tip allows you to drill accurately and prevents the drill from slipping. Due to the sharp cutting edge, the drill bit glides through the wood and creates pristine holes.

Pilot holes

A traditional wood drill bit is used for drilling holes in beams, boards, or planks made of softwood. Examples of softwood are pine wood, chipboard, and MDF. Drilling pilot holes in softwood is done to prevent the wood from splitting. Especially thin boards and slats tend to split without pre-drilling. You should always drill a pilot hole with a drill bit that is thinner than the screw you are going to use.

You will also need to drill holes when working with, for example, carriage bolts. For 10 mm carriage bolts, you drill a hole with an 10 or 11 mm wood drill bit. If you are working with thick beams, it might be better to use a long wood drill bit.
