Preventing wood splitting

When you want to connect wooden planks, battens or beams together using screws, there is of course nothing more annoying than wood that splits. To prevent this, it is recommended to pre-drill the wood before driving the screw into it. For a screw with a thread thickness of 5 millimetres, take a 3.5 millimetre drill bit, if the screw has a thickness of 4 millimetres, choose a 3 millimetre wood drill bit. When drilling wide holes for coach bolts, for example, it is also recommended to first drill with a small wood drill bit before using the thicker drill bit. A thin drill bit will allow you to drill more cleanly and thus centre the hole for the large drill bit correctly.
